Clovis West (2-0) Beat El Diamante 30-17. Eagles D is giving the O time to get rolling. Game this week @ Edison should be telling for both teams and a possible preview for another meeting in a few months.
Clovis East (2-1) Beat Sanger 20-13. Struggled at times, but had enough power to withstand the spirited Apaches. Bullard is next up, and should provide another stiff challenge. T-Wolves won big last year, don’t expect it this time.
Central (2-0) Beat Hoover 21-12. Grizzlies have an explosive array of talent, but they need to establish better consistency to challenge the elite. A visit to Fresno High should produce a win.
Buchanan (1-1) Beat Redwood 23-8. Huge win for the Bears. Re-establishing a ground game helped the O balance. With Bakersfield coming to visit this week, the importance of getting a win can’t be understated. It won’t be pretty this week.
Clovis (0-2) Lost to Bullard 46-12. It’s early, but the Cougars are circling the drain. Giving up 94 points in two games is ah..well..not good. Stockdale is visiting this week, if Clovis can’t win this one, it could be a long time before they do.
Madera (0-3) Lost to Merced 50-0. Who would’ve thought? Merced is good, no doubt, but no one could have expected the Coyotes to dissolve like this. Still, the season is not over; hosting Redwood could give Madera a needed boost.
CMAC
Edison (3-0) Beat Modesto 59-20. Edison looks very strong is most phases, however hosting Clovis West this week presents a big challenge for the Tigers high powered O. Again, this could be a preview of a bigger game later.
Bullard (2-0) Beat Clovis 46-12. Avenged last years debacle. Now the Knights step up in class an host Clovis East. This game will give us an idea of how far Bullard has come back.
Sanger (1-1) Lost to Clovis East 20-13. Many were surprised that it was this close. Don’t be. The Apaches battled to the end, which is their persona. A dangerous visit at Lemoore awaits. Could be another trap game.
Hoover (1-1) Lost to Central 21-12. Had edge in scoreless first half, briefly fell apart and then staged rally. The numbers game and specials teams goofs hurt the Patriots. Visiting a tough, physical Tulare Western squad will test Hoover.
Reedley (1-1) Lost to Washington 42-30. Pirates could keep up with WU’s speed. Not a good sign down the road. For this week however, Reedley has a good chance for another win, hosting Golden West.
NYL
Sunnyside (1-1) Beat Hanford West 42-21. Wildcats built a big lead, let up, then closed the deal. A visit to Washington should be interested. If the Wildcats control the lines, as they should, they’ll be OK. These guys are hard to figure…………….
Roosevelt (2-1) Beat Tranquility 21-0. Even though the competition is light, when is the last time the Riders were 2-1? Several years ago Roosevelt would have been 0-3, even with this schedule. A chance for a THIRD (?) win this week vs Frontier.
Memorial (1-1) Beat Dos Palos 7-0. Although being outplayed, the Panthers D was tough, and made several big stops, for their third straight over DP. It will get a lot tougher this Saturday at Garces.
Fresno (0-2) Lost to West-Bak 21-18. Not near as bad as last years shutout. Warriors had chances to win this one. Chances to defeat Central this week are remarkably slim.
McLane (0-2) Lost to Selma 16-13. This was horrible, not just ending the Bears losing streak, but in the manner that it was acheived. This type of loss can devastate a season. The Highlanders must regroup and give a strong showing at Kerman.
ECT
Sometimes going old school sounds cruel, but what is this canceling games because bad air? Granted, if one has asthma, or related breathing problems, they should probably not be outside. On the other hand, do you think that the air is going to improve any time soon? Are we going to have less automobiles, wildfires, and excessive heat in the future? Are we going to abolish football and stay inside and play hopscotch and video games?
Going outside under such conditions may not be pleasant, but fences must be built, houses constructed, lawns mowed, and mail delivered. We can’t escape the elements that we have created. No matter what Rush Limbaugh might think. I feel bad for all those JV players who worked so hard all week (in the heat) only to be told that their game is canceled. What a reward for hard work.
Props to Fresno State for their balls out effort at A&M. Big upsets really make college football a great game. Michigan and Auburn
are prime exhibits. Powers going down.
Kingsburg looks pretty good so far. Tulare showed some power whacking Lemoore.
