TRAC

Central (4-1) Lost to Bullard 27-20. Grizzlies dug themselves into a hole, rebounded by not enough. Central has too much talent for the inconsistent play so far. If they play as capable, the have a chance this week vs CW.

Clovis East (3-2) CE was idle. Good time for a bye week, the T-Wolves are dinged, the week off combined with this weeks game vs Clovis should enable CE to build for the tougher games to follow.

Clovis West (2-2-1) Lost to Centennial-Corona 31-24. Eagles had chances against on of the state’s top teams. Even with undisclosed discipline issues, new coach Martin seems to have kept team focused. This week vs Central will tell more.

Madera (2-3) Beat McClymonds-Oak 35-26. After a horrible start, Coyotes have scored 70 in last two wins. A good chance to make it 3 in a row this week hosting Buchanan. If they even the slate, Madera could be dangerous.

Buchanan (2-3) Beat North-Bak 19-7. Bears came back for a win that they had to have. A visit to Madera gives Buchanan a slim chance to acheive victory. Only one other game looks good after this, but Madera has rolled two years in a row.

Clovis (0-5) Lost to Atascadero 41-0. A week after their best effort of the year, the Cougars were blasted by a strong team. Playing CE this week probably will not build much confidence. I’m straining for anything positive.

CMAC

Bullard (5-0) Knights beat Central 27-20 in battle of unbeatens. Bullard started and finished strong. Bullard travels to Oakland Tech this week and should be 6-0 before starting league play. Why have Knights returned to the Powder Blue unis?

Edison (3-0-1) Tigers were idle. This week Edison hosts Sanger at Sunnyside, where the stadium will be overflowing. Many of the current players weren’t born the last time Edison defeated the Apaches. Tigers should roll.

Sanger (4-1) Beat Fresno 35-8. Apaches finally get an easy win. This week against Edison, Sanger does not match up well. They seldom do against the Tigers but usually find a freak way to win. Not this time.

Reedley (3-2) Lost to Centennial 39-29. Not a bad loss, if there is a such thing. Pirates continued to score well. A visit to Hoover this week should be high scoring and a inside track on the CMAC cellar.

Hoover (2-3) Lost to Sunnyside 24-13. Sunnyside is much improved, but the Patriots can’t make a habit of losing such as these. Hosting Reedley is now the key. A loss here and Hoover is looking at the stigma of a 3 win season.

NYL

Sunnyside (3-2) Beat Hoover 24-13. A much needed win over a quality oppt should set the stage for the Wildcats to run thru the NYL. First stop is vs Fresno, who plays hard, but aren’t at Sunnyside’s level.

Roosevelt (4-2) Beat Madera South 37-0. Roosevelt, 4 wins?? A week off to savor their efforts before league play. The Riders should win another game or two.

Memorial (2-3) Beat CVC 27-6. The Panthers lack numbers, but play hard. They have a slight chance in the NYL. First league game is important, so McLane is the perfect oppt.

Fresno (1-4) Lost to Sanger 35-8. Lost without giving up a single yard passing. Warriors must open league play by hosting Sunnyside. The can only hope to stay close early and get some turnovers to have any chance.

McLane (0-5) Lost to Wasco 31-28. This is awful!! I thought the Highlanders were much improved and would have 3 or 4 wins by now. They are circling the drain. SJM is the next step toward the possibility of a 10 loss season. Ouch.

ECT

More on Roosevelt. As I’ve said, their schedule is woefully weak, however back in 2001-02, they’d probably have been 0-5 with it. Coach Michael Hobbie has done an outstanding job. Another few wins is possible, something that would have been out of the question a year ago.

And Clovis. Who would have though that it would get so bad so fast? I feel sad for Coach Campbell. He is a super person and role model, but Clovis (all areas) isn’t known for tolerating anything but big winners.
